Q90 — where it's treated in the network

Most families come to the network case manager with the karyotype already confirmed and a list of comorbidities — a heart defect, hypothyroidism or GI anomalies — that are being managed in parallel by home specialists. The case manager will help compare network clinics by cardiac and thyroid comorbidities, the age the program starts, and family logistics, then schedule the course around the main medical follow-up.

About the condition

What is Down Syndrome?

Down syndrome is a chromosomal disorder caused by a full or partial extra copy of chromosome 21. ICD-10 codes it as Q90 (trisomy 21). It is the most common chromosomal anomaly — affecting roughly 1 of every 700 newborns. Associated features include congenital heart defects (about 50%), hypotonia, motor and speech delay, and increased risk of thyroid and hearing pathology.

Families reach the network case manager with different needs: early intervention from the first months of life (motor stimulation, occupational therapy, speech therapy); behavioral therapy alongside accompanying features; or gut-brain-axis work for GI symptoms through the specialized Microbiota Lab center. Details on causes, symptoms, diagnostics and the rehabilitation program are in the expandable blocks below.
