Post-op

Post-op — where it's treated in the network

After an orthopedic or neurosurgical operation in a child with CP — SPML, SLOB, SDR or hip osteotomy — rehabilitation decides whether the surgeon's result will hold. The network of clinics in China and Uzbekistan runs a 3-phase program: early in-hospital care, active recovery, and the return to walking.

About the condition

What is Post-Surgery Rehabilitation?

Post-surgery rehabilitation in children with cerebral palsy is structured recovery of function after operations on muscles, tendons, bones and the spinal cord. Without rehabilitation, the surgical result is partly lost. ICD-10 codes the case by the underlying diagnosis (G80, Q66) together with Z48.89 (postoperative care).

Families reach the network case manager after different operations: after SPML (minimally invasive muscle lengthening) — a short recovery; after SDR (selective dorsal rhizotomy) — a long 6–12 month program; after multilevel correction (SLOB/SEMLS) — immobilization and a gradual return to walking; after hip osteotomy — restoring weight-bearing. Details on program phases, equipment and timelines are in the expandable blocks below.
