A taxi is the easiest way to get around Huizhou — to the centre, to a shop or to the beach. There is only one difficulty: explaining the address out loud rarely works, as drivers here speak neither Russian nor English. The solution is simple — show the address on your phone screen.

We have put together cards for the places our patients visit most often: the NeuroLife centre, their accommodation, a bank and an ATM, supermarkets and shopping malls, cafés and beaches. Each card shows a photo of the place, with the name in Russian at the top so that you pick the right card, and the same name in Chinese characters at the bottom. The driver only needs to look at the bottom line — that part works regardless of the language you speak.

How to use the cards

  1. Download the cards before you travel, while you still have your usual internet: in China many messengers and cloud services do not open without a VPN.
  2. Save them to your phone gallery. A card has to work offline — there may be no signal in the car.
  3. Turn the brightness up when you show the screen: in daylight the text is hard to read.
  4. Keep the “Your accommodation” card until the very end of your stay — you need it on the way back from every trip.

If the address you need is missing

Show the card at your hotel reception — the staff will point you in the right direction or call a taxi for you. If a place is not on the list, message your coordinator: they will explain the route to the driver by phone or prepare a card with the address you need.

Talk to a network coordinator

Name and phone, half a minute. The coordinator will get in touch — usually on WhatsApp or Telegram.
